Access Database Connection

Pre-Requirements to connect to Access

  • The Access Database (File .MDB) has to be on the same server as the Scriptcase;

  • Windows has to have a MDAC28SDK or later. (On the later versions of Windows 2000 there is a default installation)

  • Access Database with User and Password can only do a connection through ODBC.

Starting from the release Scriptcase 6.0.032 it’ll be necessary to use the component Microsoft Access Database Engine so that there can be a connection.

If you don’t have the component install it’ll show this error:

"To work with MS Access version inferior than 2007/2010 you should install Microsoft Access Database Engine."

Note: To do the download of the component you’ll have to access Microsoft, Click on one of the following links:

An Access database connection can be done two ways: ADO and ODBC

  • Connecting to Access with ADO

To do a connection to your Access database using ADO drive, first verify that the COM extension is active in your diagnosis. To access your Diagnosis, you can login to your Scriptcase and from the menu you can access it Help -> Diagnosis.

Note: If the extension isn’t active, you’ll have to install MDAC28SDK, after installing restart your PC.

If the extension is active, follow the tutorial.

To create a connection follow these steps:

After selecting the data base you want to connect, in this case Access, you’ll be redirected to this page.

    • Place the information necessary to connect to your database.

Fields

Connection Name: Inform the name of your connection.

DBMS Type: Select the type of driver that’ll be used to connect.

Path: Inform the path that the file (.accdb) is saved.

Username: Inform your User, if you inserted one.

Password: Inform your Password, if you inserted one.

After informing all the fields test your connection, after that click save.

Creating a connection with Access using ODBC

To create a connection between Scriptcase and your Access database using ODBC, it’s necessary to create an ODBC source connection in your system. To store the information necessary to do the connection (The ODBC has to be created on the same server that Scriptcase is installed).

Do the following steps to make an ODBC connection.

First we to create the connection ODBC source, for that you’ll have to go to Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools\ODBC Data Source

It’ll be displayed the following window, you have to select System DNS:

Now let’s add a new source. Click Add.

Now select the capable driver with your database in this case Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb, *.accdb).

Now click finish, you’ll be directed to a setup window.

Inform the name of the Data Source then select file of the Database.

After selecting the File Click OK, then Click OK on the Setup to Finish.

Back to the Scriptcase we’ll setup the environment to work with the ODBC connection. The routine is similar to ADO connection. Simply do what’s on the image below:

Place the information necessary to connect to your database.

Fields

Connection Name: Inform the name of your connection.

DBMS Type: Select the type of driver that’ll be used to connect.

ODBC Name: Inform the name of the ODBC Data Source.

Username: Inform your User, if you inserted one.

Password: Inform your Password, if you inserted one.
